FIVE fetuses found at home of DC anti-abortion activist Lauren Handy, police say
The Metropolitan Police Department discovered five fetuses inside the Capitol Hill home of an anti-abortion activist who was just charged with allegedly invading a reproductive healthcare clinic in 2020. In a statement to the Daily Beast, police said they responded to a tip “about potentially hazardous materials” at the home of Lauren Handy, 28, around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. “Upon further investigation, MPD located five fetuses inside a residence at the scene,” police said. “The fetuses were recovered by the DC Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. At a press conference Thursday, DC Police Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict confirmed that the fetuses “were aborted in accordance with DC law.” We are therefore not investigating this incident in this sense. WUSA9 first reported that Handy was outside her home on Wednesday as officers pulled out coolers containing the fetuses. Although Handy declined to comment on the incident, the anti-abortion activist said, “People are going to freak out when they hear.” Handy is among nine anti-abortion protesters who were charged on Wednesday after allegedly storming a DC health center and posting it on Facebook.
