Rapid City woman arrested after Tuesday DUI accident that injured 2 children | Local

A 36-year-old Rapid City woman will face multiple charges after she was shipwrecked on Tuesday afternoon and tested nearly three times the legal alcohol limit.

The Rapid City Police Department arrested Angelita Rich after blowing a .229 during a preliminary breath test and speaking with witnesses. According to court records, Rich is charged with a DUI, vehicle battery, and a hit-and-run with bodily harm. According to a press release Wednesday morning, she was arrested on those charges as well as reckless driving, driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and two warrants.

According to a news release Wednesday morning, police responded to a report of a crash with injuries around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday in an area south of Lacrosse Street and Omaha Street. The report also states that a woman, involved in the crash, was attempting to flee the scene with two children.

Once there, officers gathered information about the crash from witnesses and determined that a pickup truck was traveling southbound on Lacrosse Street ahead of a speeding passenger vehicle.

According to the release, the passenger vehicle collided with the rear of the pickup truck. As both vehicles came to a stop, the driver, later identified as Rich, and two children exited the vehicle and began fleeing the scene.

Police made contact with Rich in the 700 block of Center Street. Both children appeared to have been injured in the accident and a medical unit arrived to provide assistance.

While speaking to Rich, officers noted signs of impairment and administered a preliminary breath test. Police located safe accommodations for the children and placed Rich under arrest.

Rich made his first appearance in Pennington County court on Wednesday morning. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.

Rich currently has another pending case filed on October 5, 2020 in Pennington County which includes an arrest warrant issued on November 17, 2020 after she failed to appear in court on November 17, 2020. She is charged a DUI, failing to stop – accident causing property damage, driving with a suspended license and excessive road conditions. She received a personal guarantee.

She also has an open POA case in Pennington County which was filed on July 8, 2020. Rich is charged with driving with a suspended license. According to court records, Rich received a ticket on July 8, 2020. The court issued an arrest warrant on September 18, 2020, after he failed to appear for an initial appearance on September 9.

Rich has two criminal magistrate cases pending in Minnehaha County. A case filed in 2005 accuses Rich of not having a driver’s license. A case filed in 2012 accuses Rich of driving with a suspended license and not being financially responsible. The court issued an arrest warrant in the 2012 case on July 10, 2012 after Rich failed to appear in court on July 3, 2012.
